Carlos Varela, the acclaimed Cuban cantautor (singer/songwriter) is coming to the United States for his first concert tour in more than a decade. The tour has been sponsored by Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt. Carlos is Cuba’s most popular folk/rock musical artist. For thirty years, he has been the voice of his generation—and of all Cubans coming of age since the triumph of the Revolution—performing for enthusiastic crowds across the island, even when Cuban radio stations refused to play some of his songs. The tour is promoting CarlosРІР‚в„ў latest album: “NO ES EL FIN”, which continues to receive numerous accolades from fans and critics. In September 2009, Carlos was one of a handful of Cuban artists invited to perform at Juanes’ historic “Paz Sin Fronteras” concert in Havana, which drew more than one million people to the Plaza of the Revolution. Carlos performs around the world as well, and has appeared with Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Joaquin Sabina, Miguel BosГ©, Mecedes Sosa, Los Van Van and Sting. He was prevented from appearing in the U.S. by the Bush Administration for many years, but last December he received a visa for a brief cultural exchange visit that included stops in Washington and L.A. His upcoming trip with his band, including singer Diana Fuentes, will be his first U.S. concert tour since 1998. Carlos believes in the power of music to make a difference in the world. As he told the New York Times last December, “Music is not going to move governments. But it might move people. And people can move governments.” This is a unique opportunity to see one of the most admired and moving contemporary Cuban music acts.
